Garfield: A Discussion

Garfield has got to be the worse comic ever written, or will ever be written. Its even written by a committee. Which shows the utter horribleness of it. Stemming from this deep rooted hatred of Garfield I've come to the realisation that is describes the United States of America to a T. What follows is an examination of each character in the strip and their role in this analogy

Garfield: He represents the majority of the American citizens. He's fat, he's happy, he's materially greedy, as witnessed by his behaviour at Christmas time. He's a huge waster of his house's (world's) resources, making use of more then his fare share of the goods. He also abuses those around him. Which leads us to our next character

Jon: He's the UN. He's totally dweeby and unable to do anything, yet he's the master, the one in control of the house. Even though he's pretty much under Garfield's thumb. Also, he's unable to score with the ladies, a problem I think Kofi Annan probably faces too.

Odie: Odie typifies the other nations in the world. Sit around drooling as Garfield comes along and kicks their ass. Yet he keeps doing the same thing over and over again. You'd think he'd learn not to stand at the edge of the table.

Thermal: Represents the few contries in the world willing to stand up to the U.S. However she's too small and insignificant to really do any harm.

Its late now, and I came up with most of this while coming down from a sugar/caffiene high induced by Mt. Dew. I'd appreciate any input to further this hypothesis though.
